As much as the external architectural structure and planning layout is important, a successful home and building, require the equivalent attention to the internal visual spaces. The advantage of operating in both fields is that, when the architectural design is in progress, the interior elements and design are simultaneously already starting to develop and are being created to facilitate the architectural design. Ultimately, the two scopes of work should marry in unity and be complimentary to one another. Structural knowledge of the architectural design, assists greatly in the interior decisions and choices made.
For an aesthetically pleasing interior, balance is to be achieved with the use of tones, blends, contrasts, textures and forms mixed with a variety of complimentary colours and materials. Achieving this correct blend, creates a satisfactory and pleasant sense of sight and touch. Addressing different elements of walls, floors, ceilings, fenestration with fixed and movable furnishings, the entire interior space must work as one unit – one space.

We enjoy assisting with the design and selection of the “hard” or fixed furnishings. These would include the designs of kitchen layouts, cabinetry and carpentry designs, sanitary and tapware selections, electrical light fitting designs, floor and wall finishes and coverings, ceiling and bulkhead designs, balustrade design and selection etc. Hard finishes cannot be easily removed or changed after installation and hence, correct choices and decisions need to be made at the onset. Knowing this, Ivory Plum will gladly assist with these important selections and designs to the overall approval of the client.
In contrast, the “soft” or movable furnishings are the “cherry on the cake” in interiors. These are the noticeable main furniture pieces, the fabrics, the pillows and cushioning, the artwork and ornamental décor items etc. These add the sense of completion to a project and a “homeliness” effect as they fill the spaces practically and aesthetically created by the architectural and Interior designs.
